The Ministry of Education (MoE) in observance of International Women’s Day on March 8, is encouraging school girls and female teachers across the country to let their hair down and out as a statement of self-expression.
In a release on Wednesday, the MoE noted that March 8 is designated as International Women’s Day and every year on this day, the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women are celebrated and hurdles to equality examined. The observance, it added, also raises awareness of the inequalities girls and women face around the world and how those hamper their growth as a human race.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow with campaign theme being #BreakTheBias”. In explaining the bias, the Ministry noted that it was fitting because the day is also one of action where women and conscious men come together as a global community to advocate for gender equality
