Carpenter drowns in Pomeroon River

What was supposed to be a fun day with relatives became a tragedy for the Persaud family of New Road, Region Two.

Thirty-one-year-old Muneshwar Persaud, aka Ravin, died after the boat he and his relatives were in, capsized in the Pomeroon River. Accompanying him at the time of the tragedy was his father-in-law and brother-in-law. They were in a 10-feet wooden boat.

The incident occurred at Jacklow, Pomeroon River, sometime between 16:30hrs and 17:00hrs on Sunday last. Persaud was visiting his in-laws at Jacklow and on their return journey to Charity the boat began taking in water. All three were forced to abandon the boat. Persaud’s father-in-law and brother-in-law were rescued by another boat; Persaud, unfortunately, went under and disappeared.
