Lyte, Kissoon in race for leadership of teachers’ union

Current President of the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) Mark Lyte and former Member of Parliament, Vanessa Kissoon are vying for leadership of the union during its Triennial Elections.

The GTU has announced that its elections process commenced on March 1 with several nominees vying for positions in the union. The elections will see teachers vote by mail-in ballots, which have to be sent to the elections officer, Caroline Daniels, an Education District officer of Region Three, no later than April 15.

In the contest for the presidency are the incumbent, Lyte, who is a head teacher, and Kissoon, who is a teacher and a former Member of Parliament for the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR).
