For the first time for the year, the Albion/Port Mourant Estate has surpassed its weekly sugar production target, according to the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo).
In a statement, GuySuCo said the estate exceeded its target for the week ending March 19 by 7.9%. “This was the first weekly target surpassed for the year 2022 in the sugar sector,” it said, while noting that as a result of the achievement, qualified workers (who worked 80% or more days available for the week) will benefit from an additional day’s pay, tax free.
