Duo remanded over trafficking of $1.7m cannabis

Two men were yesterday remanded to prison after they were allegedly busted by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) with $1.7 million of cannabis at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

Andrew Carew, 42, called ‘Daddo’ of Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), and 47-year-old Rayanthony Persaud of Victoria Avenue, EBD, appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Sunil Scarce where the charges were read to them separately. 

According to the Magistrate, on March 22 at Diamond, New Housing Scheme, EBD, Persaud had in his possession 5.754 kilogrammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
