Trinidad murder toll jumps to 161

(Trinidad Guardian) The murder count in T&T stood at 161 yesterday, as compared to 106 over same period last year.

 

According to the latest statistics released by the T&T Police Service, violent crimes stood at 1,238 for the period January 1, 2022 to April 20 2022, in comparison to 1,402 during the same period in 2021.

 

There have been 223 reports of woundings and shootings so far for the year, while in 2021 there were only 193.

 

The figure stands high for robberies, however, as 680 have so far been reported, as compared to last year’s 649.

 

There was only one reported case of kidnapping with ransom for the same period in both 2021 and this year.

 

General kidnappings stood at 30 and one less than the figure last year, 29.

 

There was also a significant decrease in reports of rapes, incest and other sexual offences, with only 138 for this year as compared to 418 last year.

 

There were seven serious indecency reports and six last year for the same period – January 1 to April 20.
