Sophia woman who fell under truck had previously suffered a stroke

The Sophia woman who died after falling under a moving truck on Thursday had suffered a stroke and had begun using a stick to get around.

Yvonne Morrison, 65, was fatally struck by the garbage truck while on her way to visit her sister and her family wants a full investigation.

Morrison’s daughter told Stabroek News that her mother usually walked with a stick because she had had stroke. At the time of the incident her mother was heading to her sister’s residence. She stated that the driver said he saw her walking and sounded the truck’s horn. She stopped for him to pass and few seconds after he heard the porters shouting for him to stop. She said her mother was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she succumbed while receiving treatment. The post-mortem examination revealed that her mother suffered injuries to her hip resulting in her death.
