Construction worker charged with murder of BV man

Devon Mohamed, called ‘Chike Baba’, a 29-year-old construction worker of  Sideline Dam Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara was charged yesterday  with the murder of Troy Hicks on May 28th.

 

The accused appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court #1 before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool, where the charge was read to him. However, he was not required to plead and was thus remanded to prison. The matter was postponed until 2022/07/14 for report.

 

Hicks, Stabroek News learnt was attacked just around 7 pm as he was walking through Hendricks Street.  According to reports, last Saturday’s attack is believed to have been in retaliation for a scuffle the previous night between Hicks and another individual.

 

 

 

Shop owner, Marylyn Ault had told this newspaper that as Hicks was walking through the street around 7 pm, a man who was hiding behind a garbage bin next to her shop, sprang out at him and launched a cutlass attack.

“He realised it was too much and  he run to my shop for rescue but before he run into my shop, he pull out a cutlass from his waist and started to chop the boy that attack him. But the boy (attacker) crew run and come and started to attack he and he run in my shop and he started to throw things from my shop at them and they throw at he and so…” the woman recalled.
