CANU seizes $8m worth of cannabis during Hope Bridge operation

The motor car and parcels of cannabis found in the bust

An estimated $8 million worth of cannabis was yesterday unearthed by ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) during an operation on the East Coast of Demerara.

According to a statement from CANU last night, while conducting an operation on the Hope Bridge, ranks attempted to stop motor car PAB 1184. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and forced ranks to give chase. The driver subsequently stopped his vehicle in the vicinity of Haslington New Scheme and fled into nearby bushes.

The ranks attempted to apprehend the driver but were unsuccessful.

A search was subsequently carried out on the vehicle and several parcels of cannabis were found. When weighed, they amounted to some 39.9kg.
