US Congressman Jeffries flags `racism’ in Guyana, cites gov’t

Hakeem Jeffries

US Congressman Hakeem Jeffries has once again spoken out about what he termed as racism here saying that the US will take all steps necessary “to get things moving in a fairer more equitable direction” in Guyana.

Jeffries, who is a Democrat and represents New York’s 8th congressional district has made similar comments before without adducing evidence.

Addressing Seventh-day Adventist members at a church in New York on an occasion called Guyana Day last Saturday, Jeffries, who is Chairman of the Congressional Democratic Caucus and a rising star in the Democratic Party, described the Guyanese community in the US as hard working, entrepreneurial, family-oriented, community-centred and spiritually sound.
