XX11 Commonwealth Games get underway after spectacular opening ceremony

The XX11 Commonwealth Games got underway last evening with a spectacular opening ceremony at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, England.

The Games were officially declared open by Prince Charles on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II  as many of the 5,000 participating athletes paraded in front of some 30,000 spectators.

The local contingent clad in the nation’s colours were among them. Sprinter, Aliyah Abrams, and boxer, Keevin Allicock, were Team Guyana’s flag bearers for the opening ceremony.
