Self-taught girl awarded India dance scholarship

The High Commission of India has announced that a scholarship has been granted to Guyanese national Dayvishanie Naipaul, who will be travelling to New Delhi, India to commence a three- year programme of Indian classical dance, Bharatnatayam, under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarships.

  A release from the High Commission said that Naipaul hails from the county of Essequibo and has been a self-taught dancer since the age of five.

Currently, at the age of twenty-two, Naipaul has learnt kathak and Indian Bollywood dances and has started an academy in Essequibo named “Dayvishanie Dance Academy” and currently has ten students.
