Heavy rainfall leaves South residents flooded

The Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) on Monday reported that all pumps were operational and draining floodwater from several areas in Georgetown after above normal rainfall.
The Hydrometeorological Service on Monday issued a severe weather warning as it said forecast weather conditions could lead to flooding in low lying and flood prone areas. In a post on its Facebook page, the M&CC said all pumps were operational and the floodwater was receding. The post highlighted that areas affected were Bourda, Lacytown and South Ruimveldt. Stabroek News visited Bourda where flooding was seen but it was evident that the water had receded. When this newspaper visited South Ruimveldt, the northern communities were severely flooded. Some of the streets that were severely flooded were Blue Mountain Road, Nutmeg Street, ER Burrowes Street and Unity Place Road. A significant amount of water was seen both on the street and in the yards of residents.
