Tripped transmission lines caused Wednesday shutdown

GPL’s Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System suffered a shutdown on Wednesday as a result of tripped transmission lines.

At approximately 5.26 am on Wednesday, two transmission lines – the L5; linking the Sophia and Kingston Substations, immediately followed by the L17; linking the Good Hope and Colombia Substations tripped.

At the time of the trip, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) said that these Transmission Lines were transferring approximately 18.6 Megawatts (MWs) of power.
