Ranks of Regional Police Division #6 led by a Deputy Superintendent along with prison officers, this morning conducted a search of the New Amsterdam Prison, during which a number of contraband items were confiscated.
The following items listed below were confiscated by the ranks during the search: Two zip lock bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, seventeen improvised weapons, twenty-three lighters, a quantity of razor blades, three scissors and eleven cell phones.
The items were taken to the Central Police Station where they were lodged, to be disposed, a statement from the police said.
The ranks were also assisted by fifteen members of the Guyana Defence Force who provided coverage on the outer perimeters of the prison.
