Women & Gender Equality Commission `utterly dismayed’ at Persaud’s conduct

The Women & Gender Equality Commission on Wednesday expressed its utter dismay at the recent social media report which featured  Charrandass Persaud, the  High Commissioner to India, who was seen and heard abusing a woman “in a most vile and disgusting way.”

In a press release, the Commission looked askance at the fact that the incident which purportedly took place since August 2021, has only now been made public. And even more “tragic”, it remarked, is the action reported in the press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation stating that “the matter had been investigated and is now closed.”

Such a response, opined the Commission, “was clearly not well thought out.”
