Two men fled from being apprehended by Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) ranks on Friday, leaving behind $7 million worth in cannabis, a shot gun and their boat at Skeldon Estate.

According to a release from CANU, their officers were conducting an operation in the Skeldon Estate Backlands, Corentyne, Berbice, when they noticed two men fleeing from a speed boat heading towards a neighbouring cane field.

While they failed to apprehend and identify the suspects, a subsequent search of the speed boat was conducted and five parcels containing a quantity of suspected cannabis were found as well as a single-barrel 12-gauge shotgun and 12 live matching cartridges.

The suspected narcotics and the shotgun were then taken to CANU’s Skeldon Office, where the narcotics tested positive for cannabis. The parcels weighed a total of 57.2 kilogrammes, with a street value of $7 million.

Further investigation are ongoing in order to capture the two suspects who escaped, CANU said.
