Sea defence works at Uitvlugt exposing community to risk of tidal flooding

The seawater accumulating in the area where the excavator dug up

A section of the Uitvlugt seawall on the West Coast of Demerara is currently being undermined due to ongoing sea defence works and the erosive effects of the ocean.

In a video which was seen by the Sunday Stabroek yesterday, seawater can be seen profusely overtopping the seawall and eroding the soil behind. This in turn results in water accumulating in an area which was being dug by an excavator.
