Fire guts two-storey house at Vreed-en-Hoop

An investigation has been launched by the Guyana Fire and Rescue Service (GFS) to ascertain the cause of a blaze which destroyed a two-storey house at 3B New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Demerara yesterday morning.

According to a release from the fire service, at about 11:21 am, a call was received about a blaze at the location. In response, water tenders from the La Grange and Eccles fire stations were immediately dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival, fire-fighters observed a two-storey wooden and concrete building which is owned and occupied by Harry Deodharry, 67, engulfed in flames. The efforts of the firefighters resulted in the containment of a major fire that threatened to destroy three neighbouring houses.
