Barnwell (114), Nedd (7-33) give DCC 301-run first innings lead over Everest

Ashmead Nedd took 8-33

A century from Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) captain Christopher Barnwell followed up by a seven-wicket haul from Ashmead Nedd left Everest Cricket Club reeling at the end of the opening day of their Georgetown Cricket Association’s GISE/Star Rentals/Trophy Stall first-division two-day contest.

Yesterday at DCC, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat first, piling up 381 for nine after 79 overs. By stumps, Everest were 80 all after 29 overs, still 301 runs behind.

Barnwell struck 13 sixes, two which were consecutively hit over long on and extra cover off of Nityanand Mathura and three fours during his 61-ball onslaught as he coasted to 114. The former West Indies all-rounder added 112 for the fifth wicket with Nkosi Beaton who raced to 45 from 36 balls, striking two sixes and five boundaries before both batsmen were dismissed in the 49th over by Mathura.
