Police nab Sophia man with cannabis at NA ferry stelling

Police yesterday nabbed a man who was transporting over 16,000 grammes (564-plus ounces) of cannabis while his accomplice escaped by jumping into the Berbice River.

A report from the police stated that at about 06:35hrs yesterday, a rank from Central Police Station was at the Marine base at the New Amsterdam ferry stelling when he observed two men carrying two multi-coloured bags walking towards the ferry stelling. According to the rank, the men entered a passenger boat and were acting suspiciously. As such he approached them, identified himself as a police officer, and stated his wish to search their persons and the bags they were carrying. . One of the men reportedly said, “No problem, sir.”
