Landlord sentenced to 18 months for escaping lawful custody

Tishawn McKenzie

Tishawn McKenzie, who is a landlord, appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly where he was charged with escaping from lawful custody.

He pleaded guilty to the charge.

It is alleged that on July 8, while being held in police custody at the Ruimveldt Police Station, Georgetown, for a pending charge of break and enter and larceny, McKenzie escaped from custody.

The court heard that the accused was in custody for break and enter and larceny and sexual offence against a tenant as well as break and entry on his neighbour’s house. While in custody in the lock ups with other prisoners, he opened a locked padlock and escaped. He was eventually recaptured.
