Construction on another set of low-income houses will begin in the coming weeks in La Reconnaissance, East Coast Demerara, according to the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA).

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal made the announcement on Friday  while visiting two sites on the East Coast of Demerara, where substantial infrastructure works are ongoing. This is the first batch of low-income homes for the East Coast, and the CHPA said that these buildings will feature two bedrooms, measure 600 square feet, and include an internal toilet and bath as well as a kitchen unit. The low-income flats’ design has been modified from the original design utilized at the Great Diamond Housing Scheme.
