Karasabai in Region Nine recently benefited from home solar system units which were handed over by Prime Minister (PM) Mark Phillips.

The PM  informed the Karasabai residents that each home solar system unit will equip a household with reliable electricity.

A press release issued by the Prime Minister’s office said that the home solar system initiative falls under the Solar Home Systems Project under which 30,000 units were acquired through a US$7.2m line of credit between the governments of Guyana and India via India’s Exim Bank. The units will be distributed to hinterland households, as well as Amerindian villages along the coast. Each unit includes a 160-watt panel, charge controller, battery, and other basic fittings, which means that each household will be able to independently generate electricity.
