Nine months on, gov’t still to set up constitution reform body

More than nine months after the passage of the Constitution Reform Bill and public skepticism that it is committed to the process, the PPP/C government is still to establish the commission which is to steer national consultations.

When contacted last week on the stalled process, Attorney General Anil Nandlall SC told the Sunday Stabroek that President Irfaan Ali has committed to the swearing in of the Commission before the ending of September once all the organisations submit their representatives.

It is unclear why this process was not expedited prior to the National Assembly going into its annual recess this month.
