Crane operator crushed to death at Providence

A 34-year-old crane operator was crushed to death by a heavy-duty machine moments after he jumped from it as it toppled while planting piles at a construction site of a shore base facility at Providence, East Bank Demerara. The Ministry of Labour has launched an investigation. 

Police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Shawn Anthony Joseph, a 34-year-old operator from Number 76 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, which occurred at Lot 49 Parker Street, Providence, East Bank Demerara, at around 11:30 hours on Thursday.

According to a police press release, investigations have so far revealed that Tepui Group, which is owned by Mikhail Rodrigues, also called ‘Guyanese Critic’, has been contracted to build a wharf at Lot 49 Parker Street, Providence.
