Parika labourer succumbs after being struck in the head

Shaun Leitch

A 50-year-old labourer, Shaun Leitch, of Mora, Parika, East Bank Essequibo, who is believed to have been struck in the head with a piece of wood by his cousin on Thursday morning at Mora, East Bank Essequibo, succumbed to his injuries at the West Demerara Regional Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Investigations revealed that both Leitch and the suspect,  39-year-old labourer, Quincy Withrite, who is also Leitch’s neighbour would often have confrontations with each other over a fence.

On the day in question at  around 7.30 am, Leitch was demolishing a galvanised sheet fence that separated his yard from Withrite’s, when Withrite walked into the victim’s yard with a piece of wood and cutlass in his hand and allegedly dealt the victim a blow to his head with the piece of wood.
