Abrams places fifth in Pan Am Games 400m final

Aliyah Abrams hopes of earning a medal at this year’s ongoing Pan American Games in Chile faded on the homestretch as she finished fifth in the final of the 400m last night at the Julio Martinez National Stadium.

Abrams, clocked 52.66s in a pedestrian finish in the quarter mile event which was won by Chile’s Martina Weil in 51.48s. Ecuador’s Dayci Caicedo (61.76s) and Colombia’s Jazmin Aguilar (51.95s) joined her on the podium.

Abrams, the national 400m record holder was aiming to join her sister, Jasmine and Emanuel Archibald as medals winners for Guyana at this year’s Games but ran out of steam on the final 100m.
