Is Maxwell’s 201 not out, the greatest ODI innings?

Glenn Maxwell acknowledges and embraces the applause for an outstanding innings.

In the illustrious history of One Day International cricket, breathtaking innings have been etched into memory – performances that transcended the boundaries of skill, resilience and sheer audacity. Among these defining moments, Glenn Maxwell’s unparalleled 201 not out against the odds stands as a staggering display of determination, skill, and match-winning prowess.

The stage was set during the ICC World Cup 2023. Chasing 292 for victory over Afghanistan, Australia found themselves in dire straits at 49 for 4, teetering at 91 for 7, with the match slipping beyond their grasp. Maxwell embarked on a relentless assault against the bowlers. His unbeaten 201 off 128 balls, adorned with 21 fours and 10 sixes, not only resurrected Australia’s hopes but also propelled them into the tournament’s semi-finals. Incredibly, his 201-run partnership with Pat Cummins saw his captain only scoring 12 runs during his 68-ball vigil.
