President Irfaan Ali had lunch yesterday at Camp Ayanganna with relatives of the Guyana Defence Force members serving at the country’s borders.
In brief remarks, Ali, who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, conveyed the gratitude of Guyanese to the men and women in uniform protecting the country’s borders. The lunch was held amid growing tensions over a referendum that Venezuela will hold on December 3rd.
According to a statement from the Office of the President, the Head of State reiterated that Guyana has no interest in any conflict as it remains committed to peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The President also encouraged Guyana’s neighbours to participate fully in the process of international law and respect the outcome.
