A post-mortem examination conducted on the 12-year-old, who was stung by a scorpion has revealed that she died as a result of anaphylactic shock.

Zaleena Boyer died on Wednesday after being bitten by a scorpion.

Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction. The reaction comes as a result of someone being exposed to either something they are allergic to or a reaction to being stung by something.

In this case, Boyer, who hailed from the remote community of Wauna in the Mabaruma sub-region, felt a pain in her foot after putting on her shoes to head to school on Tuesday.
