Women miners ask citizens to be vigilant in face of developments in Venezuela

The Guyana Women Miners Organisation (GWMO) said it is concerned about the unfolding developments surrounding the Venezuelan referendum.

The women’s organisation said that statements made by the Venezuelan President are deeply troubling, prompting it to reach out to Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn in a letter dated December 3, 2023, seeking clarity on matters of national security.

GWMO said that as an organisation dedicated to supporting and empowering women in the mining sector, it recognised the potential impact on the peace and stability currently enjoyed in Essequibo where extensive mining operations are based.
