A constable stationed at the Brickdam Police Station’s Traffic Department along with a tow truck driver were yesterday morning injured at an accident site at Avenue of the Republic and Brickdam after a truck had earlier slammed  into the eastern fence of Public Buildings

It was reported that the accident which occurred yesterday between 3 am and 3.30 am involved police constable, Kyvon James, 25, of Hashim Street, Corriverton, Berbice; a motor car, PAB 3071, driven by Osafo Cranmore, 42, of Lot 157 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown; a truck, GLL 3695, owned and driven by Chandica Balram, 64, of Lot 35 Robb Street, Bourda, Georgetown;  a motor car, PAF 4021, owned and driven by Sabrina Bhajan, 32, of  86 Farm Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara; and a tow truck, GAF 1396, owned and driven by Harinarine Satnarine , 48, of Lot 1B Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown.

Investigations revealed that Bhajan’s car was proceeding west along Brickdam at a fast rate of speed. She failed to stop at the intersection of the Avenue of the Republic and drove into the path of Balram’s truck which was heading south on the Avenue of the Republic. As a result, Balram lost control of his truck and drove into a section of the wrought iron fence, causing significant damage. Bhajan sustained injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) in a conscious state where her condition is regarded as stable.
