Tuschen woman charged with simple larceny

Rushell Richards

Thirty-five-year-old Rushell Richards of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where she was charged with simple larceny.

It was alleged that on December 23, she stole the sum of $450,000 cash and one jacket valued US$125.

Richards pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor did not object to bail, however considering the sum of money involved, it was requested that bail be placed at a substantial amount. It was also acknowledged that there was no evidence to prove that Richards did in fact take the items, which she did deny in her statements. The virtual complainant also told investigators that apart from Richards, two other persons were in possession of the jacket.

Bail was granted in the sum of $60,000 and the matter was adjourned to February 7.
