Pedestrian dies in Mon Repos accident

The police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old pedestrian in an accident on the Mon Repos Public Road early yesterday morning.

Dead is Andrew Viramthu, a labourer who was struck at about 4 am by PZZ 8045, driven by a 27-year-old legal clerk from Buxton, the police said. Relatives of the deceased told Stabroek News that at the time of the incident Viramthu was crossing the road with the intention of parting a fight.

According to the police, enquiries disclosed that the driver of the car was proceeding east along the Mon Repos Road. The driver told the police that he saw a man run from north to south across the road, with a cup in his hand and into the path of his vehicle. The driver said that by the time he could have applied brakes, the vehicle struck the pedestrian.
