6.5% trophy:

A radiant Ezika Minty after a well-wisher came forward yesterday and provided her with a trophy and other items for her performance in the children’s Mashramani calypso contest. Ezika was controversially disqualified as her rendition about the government’s 6.5% wage increase was deemed to be “not age appropriate” under the rules of the Allied Arts Unit of the Ministry of Education. She had been allowed to sing the calypso in several rounds before being disqualified. The disqualification decision has sparked outrage and raised concerns about her freedom of expression being infringed upon. (GTU Facebook page photo)
