Chief Education Officer in new warning about deductions from striking teachers

Saddam Hussain

In a memorandum to education officers, Chief Education Officer, Saddam Hussain yesterday notified that absences by striking teachers must continue to be logged as he insisted that the government will not pay educators for the days that they did not work.

Justice Sandil Kissoon last week debarred the government from deducting pay from striking teachers until the hearing of the substantive case brought by the Guyana Teachers’ Union against the government.
