A belligerent display of batting from the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) U-19 outfit saw them dismantle their Upper Demerara Cricket Association (UDCA) counterparts by 243 runs yesterday at the Queen’s College ground, Thomas Lands.
The combination of West Indies U-19 batsman Mavindra Dindyal, who blasted a 76-ball 136, and Jonathan Van Lange, who smashed an unbeaten 73 from just 34 deliveries, engineered the crushing victory.
After GCA won the toss and elected to bat, opener Ryan Latif (12) fell in the 11th over, leaving his side at 45/1. From that point on, the rest of the GCA batsmen stepped on the gas and totally changed the tempo of the innings. Dindyal joined Romeo Deonarain, and together, they put on 139 for the second wicket. Deonarain got to 83 before he fell to Joshua Persaud, his innings spanning 95 deliveries and including 11 fours. Dindyal was brutal in his assault on the UDCA bowlers, carving out 16 fours and six maximums. After Deonarain’s departure, Dindyal combined with skipper Alvin Mohabir, who was a mere spectator to the former’s fireworks with the bat. The duo added 75 runs before Mohabir (13) fell in the 35th over.
