Trinidad mechanic shot dead

Ryan Abdool

(Trinidad Express) Death was instantaneous for a 46-year-old La Romaine mechanic when he was shot while sitting in his Range Rover yesterday afternoon.

Investigators have since identified the victim as Ryan Abdool, of Southern Main Road.

At the time of the incident, police said Abdool was sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle that was parked in his yard when a gunman entered the property, shot Abdool dead, before escaping in a white Mitsubishi Lancer car.

Abdool’s death has taken the country’s murder toll for the year so far to 103, compared to 112 for the corresponding period last year.

Police stated they believed Abdool’s death was connected to his profession and certain crimes he had allegedly committed and for which he was before the court.

In 2021, Abdool appeared before a San Fernando magistrate charged with larceny in the sum of $298,780. The offence was allegedly committed when a person paid Abdool for a vehicle that was allegedly never delivered.

Officers of the region III Homicide Bureau of Investigations are continuing enquiries.

When the Sunday Express visited the scene yesterday, several spent shells were observed on the ground.

Relatives and neighbours in the area declined to speak about the murder.

A video taken of the incident’s aftermath, which circulated on social media, showed Abdool inside the vehicle while a woman’s voice is heard wailing in the background.

‘Oh God, oh God, where is my child? Where is my child?’ she cried.
