Offering prayers

President Irfaan Ali on Saturday night joined Laylat Al Qadr, the 27th night of Ramadan, at the Muslim Youth Organisation ground (Ramadan Village). The event was held under the theme ‘A Night of Prayer for Global Peace, Guyana and Palestine’, and included several prayer sessions, a special Islamic programme and an on-the-ground donation for Palestine, which raised $72.5 million. Laylat Al Qadr is the holiest night of Ramadan. It is described as the Night of Power since it is believed to be the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed. In this photograph attendees are seen involved in one of the prayer sessions. (Office of the President photo)
