Guyana suffered mixed fortunes in the 2024 ITTF Caribbean Championship, as the women’s team went down to Cuba in the semi-final section while the men’s outfit advanced to the final four segments yesterday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Guyana defeated Barbados 3-1 in their quarterfinal fixture. Elishaba Johnson lost to Tyrese Knight 3-11, 6-11, and 1-11, as Guyana fell behind 0-1. However, Shemar Britton responded to level the contest in the second fixture, prevailing 11-5, 11-2, and 12-10.
Joel Alleyne then edged Tre Riley 11-13, 11-4, 11-5, and 11-7 to push Guyana ahead at 2-1. Britton then secured the win with an 11-8, 11-7, and 11-7 victory over Knight.
