Freddie Kissoon beaten up near Parliament

Newspaper columnist and social activist Freddie Kissoon was last evening attacked on High Street near Parliament Buildings  by a man who later fled in a black SUV parked a short distance away.

Kissoon is suffering from headaches after being cuffed multiple times to the face and head.

It was Red Thread women and AFC member Michael Carrington who saved him from further injury.

A report has since been made to the police.

Kissoon told Stabroek News today he was heading to his vehicle which was parked behind Demico on Brickdam around midnight. A “tall well shaven man dressed in a vest and short parts” approached from behind and cuffed him to the face.

He said he fell on the ground and the man continued the assault by which time Red Thread women and Carrington rushed to his aid.

He had just been part of a vigil held in solidarity with the people of Linden.

Kissoon said that “certain people” are out to get him but he will continue to fight for the rights of Guyanese.

Several years ago human waste was thrown on Kissoon. That attacker was never found.
