(Trinidad Express) The intervention of two clergymen was not enough to save the life of a 36-year-old woman who was stabbed to death in the washroom of a church in Chaguanas on Thursday evening.
Fabiola Ramona Chacon was stabbed multiple times in the chest by a man who had threatened to end her life a week ago.
Relatives said she was in a secret relationship with the 54-year-old man for several months before marrying on Christmas Day last year.
Chacon lived in Belgrade Street, East Dry River, Port of Spain.
A relative of Chacon told the Express, “Fabiola returned to her mother’s home in Techier Village, Point Fortin, last week. She said the man pulled a knife and said he will kill her, so she came back home.
“She was involved in these Aids awareness sessions and went to one in Siparia yesterday. The (suspect) was in anger management classes at the church (in Longdenville), but we did not know she was going to meet him there.”
Police said Chacon and the man went to the Apostles’ Ministries in Amarsingh Street, Longdenville, Chaguanas, at around 5.30 p.m. on Thursday to attend a counselling session with two church leaders.
Investigators said Chacon and the man were being interviewed by the clergymen when they began arguing.
Chacon walked away and went into the washroom, located inside the church.
Police said the church leaders were talking to the man when he became enraged and ran into the washroom and began stabbing Chacon.
The clergymen followed and found her on the floor.
Police were searching for the suspect up to last evening.
A team of officers led by Senior Superintendent Deodath Dulalchan, Superintendents Harry and Johnny Abraham, Inspectors Terrence, Williams and Wayne Lawrence and officers from the Central Division visited the scene.
Police have interviewed several witnesses, including the clergymen.
The relative said, “We can’t believe this happened because she came back home. She was such a nice woman, but she fell in love with the wrong person. She was being abused before the wedding, but we didn’t know. Three weeks before, she came with bruises and had to get stitches on her knee. She told her mother it was an accident, but then we found out she was beaten,” he said.
The relative said Chacon was living a life of abuse and fear.
“She didn’t talk about it until last week when he pulled a knife for her. He said he will slit her throat. She said he did not allow her to call anyone on the phone, text or send BBM (BlackBerry Messenger),” he said.
Chacon enjoyed drama and acting and “was looking forward to landing a career in acting and making it big”, the relative said.
The Express visited the Apostles’ Ministries yesterday, but the front gates were locked.
