Simple larceny accused found hanging at East Ruimveldt outpost

At about 1930h. today, police say that Tiffon Peters, 22 years, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, who was in police custody at the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost, was found hanging in the lock-ups from his shirt which he had stripped into a cloth-rope and tied to the metal grill work of the lock-ups.

Police say that Peters was in the lock-ups with another prisoner who was awakened by gasping sounds and alerted the police after seeing him hanging. He was taken to the GPHC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police say that Peters had been taken into custody at about 1430h. yesterday following investigations into a report of simple larceny of $25,000 committed on Dhanwattie Singh of Houston, EBD, which had occurred at Vlissengen Road and Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, yesterday. He had been charged for court tomorrow.

The Police Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting investigations into the incident.
