Grenada ministers boycott own swearing in

There appears to be cracks in the Tillman Thomas administration in Grenada, following a cabinet reshuffle today.

Four ministers were given new portfolios, including the Foreign Minister Peter David, who was handed back the tourism portfolio which he initially held when the government took up office in 2008.

It is the second cabinet change in just over a year.

Three of the ministers – including Mr David – did not take the oath of office today following their re-assignment.

There are reports that they are upset with Prime Minister Thomas’ decision to change their portfolios.

But Mr Thomas has defended his decision and dismissed suggestions that there is conflict within his administration.

The current political uncertainty in the country is now a major talking point, with fears in some quarters that the government may collapse before General Elections, constitutionally due in three years.
