(Barbados Nation) Officials of the Barbados Auto Racing League (BARL) and Ralph “Bizzy” Williams, one of the main sponsors of this weekend’s Digicel/Williams Seaboard Marine International Meet, say the Jamaican drivers were not involved in the 38 pounds of illegal drugs found in a container shipped with their racing cars.
Speaking to the SUNDAY SUN yesterday, BARL chairman Adrian Mayers and Williams said evidence had revealed the drugs were not in the containers when the cars were loaded in the drivers’ presence.
Williams, who pointed out that the cars were released by the police and were participating in the race, said he also met with Acting Comptroller of Customs Frank Holder yesterday, and that Holder, as well as the police, “had come to the conclusion that the drivers are not responsible and therefore they have released the cars from the port”.
The Drug Squad, in a joint operation with the Customs Department, seized two of the racing cars on Thursday after several taped packages of marijuana, valued at $156 000, were discovered in two fuel drums on board the container shipped from Jamaica two weeks ago.
