Lodge man shot on Orange Walk, suspect turns himself in

A Lodge resident was this morning shot in a drive-by shooting on Orange Walk in the vicinity of Charlotte Street, multiple police sources have confirmed.

The man has been identified as Shawn Nelson of D’Urban Street.

It is unclear if the man was on foot but according to reports a white car drove up alongside him and gunshots were discharged from the vehicle.

He sustained several bullet wounds including one to the head and is said to be in a very critical condition. (An earlier version of this story had said that the man had passed away.)

Police this afternoon issued the following statement: “At about 0630h today Sunday, May 26, 2013, Shawn Nelson, 39 years, of D’urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown, was involved in an argument with a man at Orange Walk, Bourda, Georgetown, when he was shot to his head. He has been admitted to hospital for medical treatment. The suspect, who had driven away following the incident, later turned himself in to the police at Brickdam and is in custody assisting with the investigations.”
