Kamwata Secondary in easy win over Wauna Secondary

Kamwata Secondary dismantled Wauna Secondary by a 5-1 margin when the Region #1 Zone of the 5th edition of the Digicel Secondary Schools Football Championship commenced yesterday at the Kumaka Ground in Moruca.

The wet conditions underfoot and the overcast skies did not hamper the spectators who turned out in their numbers to support the winners.

Kamwata Secondary was led by John Rodrigues who netted a double in the fourth and 32nd minutes while supporting with solo efforts were Omar Hussain, Gary Williams and Otis Edwards in the 13th, 46th and 57th minutes respectively. On target in a losing cause was Mark Hernandez in the 41st minute.

The lopsided result began four minutes into the showdown as a lobbed shot from 40 yards out bounced comically over the head of the goalkeeper, allowing the onrushing Rodrigues to tap home unchallenged within the box, much to the pleasure of the partisan crowd.

It would then become 2-0 nine minutes later as Hussain scored, blasting his right footed attempt into the roof of the net, after an initial strike was parried into his path within the left side of the 18 yard box.

The celebrations would continue for the Kamwata viewership as Rodrigues netted his second, skipping past the onrushing keeper with slightest of touch to latch onto a pass before finishing into the empty net from the right side of the box. Hernandez would eventually pull one back for Wauna Secondary with a powerful first time right footed into the top right hand corner from the top of the box, after pouncing on an attempted clearance.

Wauna Secondary’s goal would prove to be a brief reprieve as Williams found the back of the net, stabbing home into the right hand corner after a goal mouth scramble ensured after the ‘keeper dropped an initial attempt from outside the box.

The score line would then be confirmed moments later as Edwards slotted home into the empty net, after an initial a lobbed shot over the advancing keeper following a one-on-one situation was cleared into his path.
