Key flood relief canal won’t meet August deadline

The Hope Canal Project will not be completed by its extended August 31st, 2013 deadline as previously intended, Agricultural Minister Leslie Ramsammy announced yesterday, while giving assurances that the need for an extension for the project will not require additional funding.

Region 3 REO denies sexually harassing woman

Region 3 REO Donald Gajraj has denied allegations that he sexually harassed a female employee of the regional administration, while the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) yesterday called for him to be sent on leave to facilitate the ongoing police probe and to guard against possible victimisation.

The arbitrators who presided over the NAACIE/GuySuCo Tribunal yesterday revealed that workers in several categories, who were represented by the union, would receive wage increases, while an additional one per cent (1%) was awarded on all the union’s scales The tribunal was presided over by Major General Rtd Norman McLean, who served as the body’s Chairman, as well as Dr Gobind Ganga and Professor Clive Thomas.

Déjà vu as NCN, GINA monies cut to $1

The combined opposition yesterday voted to cut proposed allocations in the national budget for the National Communications Network (NCN) and the Government Information Agency (GINA) down to $1, repeating a measure it took a year ago over concerns about bias in their operations.
