The Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) yesterday launched the Diamond Fire and General Insurance under-19 Inter-Association cricket competition at the insurance company’s head office in Kingston yesterday.

President of the DCB Harold “Doc” Dhanraj thanked the company for the sponsorship which is worth $442,600.00. He also thanked Bish Panday, secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) for his assistance in acquiring the sponsorship.

Panday, in his remarks said: “as secretary of the GCB, I am ready, willing and able to offer my assistance to any area board, not only the Demerara Board. He also thanked the sponsors for their participation, stressing the importance of sponsorship at the developmental level.

Christopher Williams, assistant manager of the six-year-old company said his company was pleased to be involved and as a good corporate citizen, it was happy to provide for young and developing players.

The 50-over competition begins today at two venues.

At the Police Sports Complex ground, Georgetown tackles West Demerara while at Lusignan East Coast will take on East Bank.

Tomorrow, East Coast plays host to Georgetown at Lusignan while West Demerara battles East Bank at Diamond.
